About

The Department of English and Cultural Studies, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR, upholds a grand vision in consonance with the university's vision and mission. We have a dynamic teaching-learning ecosystem here that caters to providing world class education to the students. We believe in strengthening our students with better academic skills and knowledge through exposure into an intellectual climate of artistic creation, critical mediation and innovative ideation. We wish to inculcate in our students a critical self of oneself, one's society and surroundings through readings and practical engagements in our various courses to become responsible and socially sensitive citizens. The Department facilitates their holistic development by building emotional, academic, social, professional and global competencies. We constantly upgrade our syllabi in alignment with the  latest trends in both academia and industry for a holistic educational development. 

The Department has an association, English and Cultural Studies Association (ECSA) under whose aegis many creative and innovative literary and cultural activities are organised throughout the academic year. 

Apart from the regular classes, we also conduct experiential learning based activities and discussions for our students such as heritage walks, museum visits, extension activities, etc., which we believe will help to impart important values of life in our students. 
 

Department

Overview

The department promotes an intellectual climate of critical and creative ideation by inculcating among its students the habit of a critical reading of the word and the world alike. It has geared its academic engagements towards molding students into responsible and socially sensitive citizens through programs that are designed to facilitate overall growth. We offer courses in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and research level with core areas of inquiry ranging from linguistics, literature, culture, media, etc.

The programmes offered at the department incorporate a number of special opportunities such as internships, club houses, supervisory research and writing. In order to promote interaction between students and academicians and media  professionals, seminars, guest lectures and workshops are conducted on various subjects of literature and media at regular intervals. In addition, the department deeply engages in various activities such as theatre workshops, special lectures for competitive exams such as net, department newsletters etc for students benefit.

The Department of English and Culture Studies, of Christ (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR, aims at nourishing students’ curiosity to learn thereby bringing about a personal transformation, far beyond the traditional college experience. The Department of English and Culture Studies through lively discussions and reflections, encourages students to explore and learn. Our proficient Faculty guides the students to undertake a journey of intellectual transformation, and condition them for a better social transformation, making them learn how best they can serve the world with their natural talents. The Department offers ample opportunities to be creative and express thoughts and opinions through writings, poetry, music, art. The Department offers programs at undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels that covers versatile course programs such as gender studies, ecology and environment, creative writing, theory, popular fiction, among others, navigating and highlighting opportunities to re-imagine and re-shape new ideas.

 
The Department Faculty is deeply involved in various kinds of research work and projects, collaborating at multiple levels. The Department actively organizes and participates in various cultural events, theatre performances and literary fests giving the students a platform to exhibit their talent. The Department is committed to ensure a learning environment focusing on harmonious relationships by supporting the students and staff in their personal and career growth and development.  Our endeavour is to constantly improve and attend to the needs of staff and student diversity in a much wider context.
